The Domestic Choice
Are you wondering about the domestic choice for a fabulous wine now that the tariffs are impacting the import of wines from other countries? Are you afraid that you’ll miss your Pinot from France and Sangiovese from Italy? Wondering about the purity of wines in the USA? We have two words for you: Frey wines! Not only are we the domestic choice for a green wine, Frey wines are exclusively produced in Northern California’s largest Organic wine region.
All of our wines are made in the USA, in the greenest AVA, Mendocino County!
We know that a lot of people are deeply concerned about the domestic choice for wine with purity and integrity in the United States. With glyphosate use being so widespread, the contamination factor, especially for non-organic products, is incredibly high. At Frey Vineyards, our vines have NEVER been sprayed with glyphosates. We have been using organic farming practices since our winery’s inception in 1980, and we are 100% committed to growing grapes to the highest quality standard possible.
Annually, our fields are inspected by USDA agents to ensure that we are meeting all the criteria for Organic certification. At our home ranch, the vineyards are also inspected by Demeter to ensure that we meet all the Biodynamic certification criteria. As the first certified Organic and Biodynamic winery in the country, we believe we have a reputation as a green drink to uphold, and an obligation to you, the consumer, to provide wines that are free from synthetic chemicals and pesticides at every step of the process.
We love being part of the greenest, most organic wine region in the hills of Northern California!
As organic wine producers, we don’t stop at growing organic grapes. After our grapes are harvested, we make all of our wines with minimal manipulation. We never add any sulfites or other synthetic chemicals during our winemaking process. We use organic grapes and organic yeast to make Frey wine the domestic choice for a wine that you can trust. Our uncompromising purity comes through in every sip.
In 2024, we were approached by eco-wellness product crusader Leah Segedie (known by her moniker Mamavation in her blogging community). This mom blogger decided to start researching how to live healthier for herself and her family after a health crisis brought on by the toxic chemicals in our food, household products, and environment. She turned the tide by starting to research and test what levels of toxins can be found lurking in our daily routines. And, by way of this testing, she was able to discern, using empirical science, what products are contaminated.
Leah tested three of our Frey wines in a third-party lab to assess just how pure we really are. While many companies market themselves as “green” businesses and their products as “natural,” her third-party lab test investigations confirm or deny these greenwashing claims with real data. For food and drink products in particular, she’s especially looking for glyphosate contamination. Infamously known as an herbicide, this product, unfortunately, shows up in places where it hasn’t been sprayed because of its persistence in the ecosystem.
When she gets products tested in a lab, she reports the results to her community. And, because she’s a mom blogger, and moms sometimes enjoy a glass of wine, she wanted to have suggestions for what wines to offer her community. That’s where we come in. As America’s first Organic and Biodynamic winery, Leah had heard of Frey and enjoyed our wine over the years.
We sent her a sampling of our wines to test: our Organic Cabernet Sauvignon, our Biodynamic Cabernet Sauvignon, and our Organic Sun and Rain Chardonnay. We are happy to report that no glyphosates were detected in any bottle! Yay! No contamination means that we are the domestic choice for a high-quality Organic and/or Biodynamic wine.
California’s state flower, the California Poppy
Since 1980, we’ve been making wine with organic grapes with no chemical additives. We understand that the current tariffs might affect the distribution of some beloved European wines. And we hope that you’ll choose Frey Vineyards as a local producer for the domestic choice of utmost quality to help you through this tariff transition.
We’re here for you!
